From helping with events and fundraisers to responding to emergencies as a firefighter, EMT, or emergency vehicle driver, there is a role for nearly everyone at John H. Enders Fire Company & Rescue Squad. No prior experience is required, and all training and safety equipment will be provided.
We offer three types of membership:
We are your neighbors and friends who represent a wide range of professions – farmers, educators, engineers, law enforcement, financial services, corporate executives, electricians, college students, stay at home parents, retired, and more. Our youngest members are high school students, part of our “Juniors Program” for young men and women 16-18 years old, and our longest serving members have over 60 years of service.
Many members schedule regular “duty hours” where they respond to calls from the station scheduled times each week. Shifts are available 24/7 with sleeping quarters to accommodate all schedules. In addition to our volunteers, the station is staffed around the clock with professional firefighters and paramedics – you will always be welcomed and supported by the volunteers and career staff at your station. Many members respond from home to fire emergencies – when you hear the house siren going off, that’s letting our volunteers know their services are needed!
While the biggest and most invaluable benefit of volunteering with us is the sense of pride in helping your neighbors, additional benefits of becoming a member of John H Enders Fire Company are:
- Free training to become a firefighter
- Free training to become an Emergency Medical Technician
- Free training for emergency vehicle operation certification
- Free CPR training
- Flexible schedule
- Personal property tax relief on one vehicle (for active members living in the Town of Berryville or Clarke County)
- Become a part of the firehouse family
- Many impressive and often creative firehouse meals
- Opportunities for Company-assisted funding towards Paramedic or other advanced education
- Opportunity for live-in firefighter/EMT under certain conditions
